Green-lipped mussels

The green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) is a New Zealand shellfish. It has been used by native cultures to treat arthritis. Those allergic to shellfish should avoid products containing these mussels.

Studies have indicated their potential to reduce inflammation and swelling. This is due to the array of sulfated compounds and omega lipids contained in shellfish.
The green-lipped mussel is particularly high in sulfated mucoploysaccharides and omega-3 fatty acids.
